The Executive Council learned with profound sadness the death of Professor Rayson Huang, the first Honorary Patron of the UK Federation of Chinese Schools, appointed in February 2010. He passed away on April 8, 2015 in Birmingham, UK, aged 94.

Professor Huang was a graduate of The University of Hong Kong and obtained his doctorate at the University of Oxford before starting postdoctoral research at the University of Chicago. He was a professor of Chemistry at the University of Malaya. He was also Vice-Chancellor of Nanyang University in Singapore and later became Vice-Chancellor of The University of Hong Kong. Following his retirement he became Vice Chairman of Council for Shantou University. Professor Huang had long served the public in different capacities especially during his years in Hong Kong. He was honoured by the Queen.

Professor Huang had lived in Birmingham since 1994 after his retirement. As a lifelong educator and a great academic, he was still involved in education and had a keen interest in Chinese schools in the UK. We were indeed privileged to have him as our Patron; he was an excellent role model for leadership and someone we had looked up to for inspiration.

He will be greatly missed by the Federation, and we send our deepest condolences to his family.
