4th Certificate in the Teaching of Community Languages

Starting 10th January 2015
This 22-week part-time course, designed in collaboration with Goldsmiths, University of London, provides a recognised qualification in up-to-date methods in the community school context. The course leads to the award of a Goldsmiths certificate with a value of 15 credits at Level 3 of the higher education framework. It provides excellent preparation for colleagues considering going on to a PGCE course at a later stage.

 

The objectives of the course are
  • to have a basic understanding of up to date approaches to second/foreign language teaching
  • to be able to plan, teach and assess primary / secondary classes competently
  • to be able to reflect constructively on their own teaching and professional development needs

 

Training Time

Total time for the course is 150 hours, about 22 weeks. 18 hours taught time including workshops at the Teachers’ Training conference and 2 sessions at the beginning and the end of the course. Students will plan, teach and evaluate lessons over 10 weeks (on Saturdays or Sundays) including self-study, and portfolio work.

The course will begin on 10th January 2015.

 

Tutors
Dr. Jim Anderson, London Goldsmiths College; Mrs. Catalina Brook, UKFCS Education Committee; Mrs. Amy Thompson, UKFCS Advisor. Languages used will be English, Mandarin and Cantonese.

 

Fees
Course fee will be £650. Candidates may apply to their schools for bursary and to UKFCS separately.
